Some relate to the minds of others. Some just wander in their own thoughts. Thank ya! Calico Blonde - I've re-read this 5 times. I love it! Great work!
Pastordavidrn - His tragic emotional journey, which Edgar Allan Poe described in this poem, was often repeated in his other poems and certainly influenced most others. But one thing is certain. His overshadowing inner pain did not dampen his creativity and skill with metered rhyme. In fact, it perhaps heightened and honed his way with words, so that he did well in poetry what so many have done: find a release of pent-up emotions by creatively expressing them in verse.
Rereading his poem "The Raven" in my youth highly influenced my own poetry-crafting when I began writing, and his genius in expression raised a high standard for my own poems of metered rhyme. Calico Blonde - Thank you for that explanation Pastordavidm. I don't know enough about him. That is very interesting. Please feel free to tell me more.

Pastordavidrn - When you're reading a classic poet on AP, you can click on the poet's name and it will take you to the page where you can read about the poet's life. Here is Edgar Allan Poe 's page. Of course, the web probably has more detailed biographical info. That raven icon you see on many AP pages was probably picked because of his fame and his most famous poem, "The Raven. However, in my younger years, I tried to win the fame of outdoing him on one of his poems, which is in the AN at the bottom of my poem " To My Valentine. It took me 8 hours non-stop to write it Calico Blonde - Thank you very much.

I-Like-Rhymes - Try and read it in a slightly different prose form and you will find it is perfect sense or at least it is for me. From childhood's hour I have not been as others were; I have not seen as others saw; I could not bring my passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken my sorrow; I could not awaken my heart to joy at the same tone; and all I loved, I loved alone. Then, in my childhood, in the dawn of a most stormy life, was drawn from every depth of good and ill; the mystery which binds me still: From the torrent, or the fountain, from the red cliff of the mountain, from the sun that round me rolled in its autumn tint of gold, from the lightning in the sky as it passed me flying by, from the thunder and the storm, and the cloud that took the form When the rest of Heaven was blue of a demon in my view.
He appears to be listing sources of his unease and his rather strange view of life as appears in some of his writing. Including that of a cloud shaped like a demon. It's always confounded me. What was drawn? If it's EApoe, it is always a delight to read.

A down to earth poem from one of the best authors I know. I like this Report Reply. Poe was one of a few poets who knew what poetry was.
